According to The Telegraph, West Brom have surprisingly offered Matheus Pereira a new contract, just months after signing him on a permanent basis.

The skilful Brazilian spent the entirety of last season on loan at the Hawthorns, dazzling the Baggies supporters as his eight goals and incredible 20 assists helped Slaven Bilic achieve promotion.

Unsurprisingly, West Brom wanted to turn his loan into a permanent deal, and did just that when signing him for £8.25 million around two months ago, as The Telegraph state.

The BBC revealed that Pereira signed a four-year contract with the Baggies, which would take his time in the Midlands to 2024.

However, Technical Director Luke Dowling appears keen to reward the creative playmaker with a new deal just weeks after tying him down to the lengthy contract.

There is no denying that if any West Brom player deserves improved terms, it’s Pereira.

The 24-year-old has began the season in good form, scoring once while assisting two goals in six Premier League outings so far.

Bilic is also a huge fan. The former West Ham boss even compared Pereira to some of the best ball-players he’s come across in his career, including Real Madrid sensation Luka Modric.

The Times quote him as saying: ‘Everybody likes to play with young players who are good on the ball. Is it Luka Modric when he was a kid in Croatia? Is it Manuel Lanzini? Is it Dimitri Payet? But I’m praising the team. To get Pereira into those positions, they need other players — Jake Livermore, Romaine Sawyers, the full-backs – it’s the whole team.’

It is unusual for a player who has only just signed to be handed a new contract.

However, Dowling’s surprise decision emphasises just how important the Brazilian is to the Baggies.
