Aston Villa are poised to sign Gent goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic.

According to The Telegraph, Aston Villa are set to secure a £7million deal for Gent goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic, with a medical scheduled for today.
Villa brought in two goalkeepers over the summer as Andre Moreira and Orjan Nyland joined from Atletico Madrid and Ingosltadt respectively.
However, Moreira has barely featured for Villa, and Nyland has looked uncomfortable at best between the sticks this season.
Dean Smith is therefore looking to bring in a new goalkeeper to finally solve those woes, and it seems that Villa are on the verge of a huge deal ahead of the January transfer window.
The Telegraph report that Villa are set to snap up Gent star Kalinic for a huge £7million, and he has now flown to Birmingham in order to undergo a medical today.
The 28-year-old has starred for Gent since signing from Hajduk Split in 2017, and he is now Croatia’s first-choice goalkeeper since Danijel Subasic’s international retirement.

A giant at 6ft 7in tall, Kalinic is a huge, commanding figure, and should be a major upgrade on Nyland in the Villa goal, whilst marking a huge coup as Smith’s first signing.
It’s also a fascinating move given that Villa attempted to sign Kalinic in 2015 under Tim Sherwood, but couldn’t get a work permit for the Croatian; now, all appears to be right for Kalinic to finally make the move to Villa Park.
