Harry Wilson was conspicuous by his absence in the Liverpool squad on Friday.
The Wales international was in attendance as Jurgen Klopp’s side edged out Mainz 1-0 in a pre-season friendly in Austria.
But Wilson was not included in the Liverpool squad which, given the transfer speculation, was interesting.
And according to Goal, his omission is indeed linked to a move away from Anfield.
The 24-year-old, who has been on Liverpool’s books since the age of eight, was left out due to the element of ‘risk, according to Goal.
The report adds that Wilson is joining Fulham for what will be a £12 million deal.
Good move?
In a word, absolutely.
Wilson is a very decent player and he’d have loved to make it at Liverpool.
But the Reds are one of Europe’s biggest clubs and the fact he has only ever made two senior appearances for them, despite being on their books for 16 years, suggests that it’s time to go.
The Welshman has proven himself a brilliant Championship player and let’s not forget that he is good enough for the Premier League too, after a very good stint with Bournemouth a couple of years ago.
He will get regular football at a club expected to bounce straight back into the Premier League following their relegation, while Liverpool pick up an eight-figure fee for someone who wasn’t even a squad player.
For all parties, this is a fine transfer and Klopp was right to not jeopardise it by playing him on Friday.
