Brentford have reportedly launched an offer to sign Sampdoria attacker Mikkel Damsgaard, who Tottenham were heavily interested in last summer following the Dane’s performances at Euro 2020.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, The west London side have made a bid totalling at €18m (£15m) for Damsgaard, who is considered by many as one of Serie A’s most underrated players and a talent who could become a superstar in the near future for a top club.
As per the report, Sampdoria value Damsgaard highly and could seek a higher transfer fee from Brentford, however, there is confidence between the two teams that a deal can be completed from all parties that will bring the 22-year-old winger to the English capital.
Damsgaard was one of the breakout stars at Euro 2020 last summer, with the attacker’s free-kick against England in the semi-finals one of the goals of the tournament and an international high-point for the winger, who attracted strong interest from Tottenham following his performances in the competition last year.
Indeed, Damsgaard enjoyed a solid season with Sampdoria following the pan-European competition, yet it now looks like Brentford will sign the Scandinavian youngster this summer, with Thomas Frank having a strong Danish influence in his Premier League squad.
The Bees have already had an impressive window in signing the likes of Keane Lewis-Potter and Aaron Hickey, and adding Damsgaard would give Brentford another exciting young talent to their growing squad, with the winger more than ready to compete in the English top-flight.
Signing Damsgaard would be a great move from Brentford

Brentford have prided themselves in recent years in signing under-the-radar talents that major clubs would not look at recruiting, and whilst Damsgaard was wanted by Tottenham last year, the Danish international would still a shrewd piece of business from the west London side this summer.
With attacking and creative qualities that are perfect for what Brentford need as well as the potential to become even better, Damsgaard could be a great signing for Frank this summer, and with Sampdoria open to a sale, a potential bargain could also be on the cards for the Premier League side.
