Report: London-based player wants to join Crystal Palace; stalls on new contract

Bright Osayi-Samuel is hoping to join Crystal Palace before the transfer window shuts and, according to Sky Sports, the winger is reluctant to sign a new contract at Queens Park Rangers.

Mark Warburton’s Rangers have already lost their star man to Selhurst Park this summer.

And, with just a year remaining on Osayi-Samuel’s Loftus Road deal, QPR may be powerless to prevent the former Blackpool speed-machine reuniting with Eberechi Eze on Roy Hodgson’s watch.

One of the fastest footballers in the Football League is due to become a free agent in 2021 and, try as they might, Queens Park Rangers have been unable to convince him to sign a new, long-term contract.

As a result, Osayi-Samuel can be snapped up for a bargain £5 million before the early-October transfer deadline.

It remains to be seen whether Crystal Palace return to a familiar hunting ground in the weeks to come.

Sky claims that Osayi-Samuel is keen on the idea of playing Premier League football and would not say ‘no’ if The Eagles come calling.

“I’m not sure many teams have that blistering pace. As long as he knows how to use it and that’s the key for him learning the game,” Warburton told the Kilburn Times in January after Osayi-Samuel inspired QPR to a 6-1 thrashing of Cardiff City earlier this year.

“He’s working so hard. He’s got that sheer pace which terrifies defenders and when he uses it wisely like he did today he looks a real handful.”

The 22-year-old produced six goals and nine assists during his breakthrough season at QPR and, with Crystal Palace looking to inject some youth into an ageing squad, Osayi-Samuel would certainly tick a lot of boxes at Selhurst Park.

If Wilfried Zaha finally forces his way out, Hodgson could soon unveil an all-new front three of Eze, Michy Batshuayi and Osayi-Samuel.
