Liverpool’s staff are said to have been left absolutely baffled by Michael Owen’s theory about Sadio Mane, according to The Athletic.
Owen suggested last month that Mane may have been reluctant to go down in the box and earn Liverpool a penalty, as he didn’t want Mohamed Salah to get the chance to score.
Mane and Salah have had a competitive rivalry at Liverpool, with the two teammates often fighting it out for the golden boot.
But Liverpool’s staff are said to be bemused that Owen could even concoct such a wild theory.
Mane, instead, is described by Liverpool’s staff as particularly ‘selfless’ and they insist he would never try to stop his own teammate from adding to his tally.

Salah has considerably outscored Mane this term, though.
The Senegal international has just seven Premier League goals to his name, which is a surprisingly low tally for a player who has been so consistently brilliant in recent years.
And Liverpool will surely need to get Mane back to his best if they are to breach the gap and make it back into the top four this season.
