Everton are set to make major changes this summer.
According to a report from The Mirror, Liverpool’s progress under Jurgen Klopp is now starting to frustrate Everton board members, with big changes coming this summer.
The Toffees were hoping to close the gap to Liverpool by snapping up the likes of Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen, Michael Keane, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Wayne Rooney, but they’ve actually got further away.
After finishing 15 points adrift of the Reds last season, Everton now sit 23 points behind Liverpool this term, and few would bet again that gap getting even bigger by the end of the season.
Now, it’s claimed that Everton’s board members are growing frustrated by the widening gap between the Toffees and their city rivals, meaning big changes are coming at Goodison Park this summer.
It’s not only stated that Everton plan to replace manager Sam Allardyce with Shakhtar Donetsk boss Paulo Fonseca, but they also intend to land PSV Eindhoven transfer guru Marcel Brands to boost their transfer activity.
Everton will be hoping to close the gap with those moves, but they may need more than one summer to really catch up to the Reds given their progress under Jurgen Klopp.
With Virgil van Dijk on board, Naby Keita to arrive this summer and Mohamed Salah taking the Premier League by storm, Liverpool look set up for a Premier League title push next season, if they can add a couple more quality players to go along with Van Dijk, Keita, Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
Conversely, Everton need wholesale changes on and off the pitch, and even the balance of their squad means they are unlikely to be closing down Liverpool any time soon, even with their planned changes.
