Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is back in full training after a year on the sidelines, according to a report in the Liverpool Echo.
The Echo‘s report says the 19-year-old was applauded by his teammates when rejoining the senior squad for the first time since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament while playing for England’s under-21’s last year. He suffered a setback when recovering from the knee ligament injury with an Achilles problem in the summer.
That was after he impressed in the opening stages of his Liverpool career – making seven appearances following his move from Charlton in the summer of 2015.

Gomez operated at left-back under Brendan Rodgers but was bought as a centre-back and could be an option in that area of the field under Jürgen Klopp – though he is said to be some way away from seeing first team action.
The likelihood is that he will spend as much time on the training field first before making a couple of appearances for the under-23 side, and see where he goes from there.

It’s a welcome boost for the youngster, who looked very calm, composed and positionally sound when making the step up to the top flight and it was a shame he suffered his injury setback when he did.
Time is on his side to ensure he makes a full recovery and have a real impact at Liverpool. If he were to bring himself into contention to play games this season, he would face some stiff competition as there are plenty of centre-back options available to Klopp.
Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren seem to be the preferred partnership, while Lucas Leiva, Ragnar Klavan, Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori are all the club.
