Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing the Ajax centre-back.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Liverpool will have to make Ajax ace Matthijs de Ligt their highest paid player ever, if they want to sign the brilliant Dutchman this summer.

The 19-year-old has been quite simply excellent for Ajax this season, firmly establishing himself as one of the best central defenders in world football.

The Reds have been keeping tabs on De Ligt for quite some time, with Spanish media outlet Sport claiming that they will face competition from the likes of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain for his signature.

Liverpool already have Virgil van Dijk at the club, and should they manage to sign his Holland international teammate, they might just become unbeatable.

The Daily Mail claims that the Merseyside outfit will have to pull out all the stops to sign De Ligt, however, by making him their highest ever player, paying him somewhere in the region of £256,000 per week.

He will also cost Liverpool a pretty penny in the transfer market, with Fox Sports claiming that Ajax will demand around £75 million for his services.

Considering how good he is, though, that would represent excellent value for money for Liverpool.
