According to Paul Joyce in The Times, Liverpool were offered the chance to sign Jack Butland from Stoke City the day after their 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa.
Alisson Becker’s understudy, Adrian, suffered a tough night at Villa Park in Liverpool’s humiliating defeat to Dean Smith’s men.
It was the Spaniard whose overhit pass to Joe Gomez allowed Jack Grealish to set up the opener within ten minutes, squaring for Ollie Watkins to finish.
Seeing as Butland isn’t a Liverpool player, Jurgen Klopp clearly refused the offer, deciding to stick with Alisson, Adrian and young Caoimhín Kelleher as his goalkeeping options.
In Butland’s case, he sealed a bargain £500,000 move to Crystal Palace just before Friday’s transfer deadline, penning a three-year contract with Roy Hodgson’s side.

The Mirror reported that Liverpool were in discussions with Stoke over a deal for the England international recently.
That same report states that the glovesman was valued at £30 million by the Potters when they were relegated in 2018.

In that respect, Palace look to have got themselves a bargain.
It presumably would’ve been a real blow for Adrian if Klopp had gone and signed a new keeper just hours after his Villa Park horror-show, so the ex-Borussia Dortmund boss was wise to refuse the offer of Butland.
