Liverpool were just £5 million away from signing David Carmo in the January transfer window, with AS claiming the Braga defender could soon replace Sergio Ramos at Real Madrid.
Fortunately, this highly rated centre-back isn’t the sort of man to shirk a challenge. And he’ll certainly need that warrior spirit after the fortnight from hell.
On the final day of the winter window, Carmo saw a move to the Premier League champions slip through his fingers.
Days later, his season was brought to a premature end after suffering a broken leg during a cup clash with Porto.
However, a lengthy spell on the sidelines doesn’t mean Carmo’s chance of a big-money move to one of Europe’s superclubs is over.
According to AS, Real Madrid’s scouts have been compiling favourable reports about a defender who was labelled an “excellent” talent by Brendan Rodgers after a Europa League clash with Leicester City in the autumn.

With talismanic skipper Sergio Ramos potentially set to end to his trophy-laden spell at the Santiago Bernabeu, Carmo could soon be tasked with filling the boots of arguably Europe’s most influential centre-back.
AS adds Braga want in excess of £20 million – a fee Liverpool were unwilling to pay two weeks ago.
The Primeira Liga outfit demanded £23 million on 1 February. Liverpool, however, refused to pay more than £18 million, turning their attention to cut-price deals for Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies instead.
