Liverpool have missed out on Lyon star Nabil Fekir.
According to The Telegraph, Liverpool had viewed West Ham United’s Manuel Lanzini as an alternative to Nabil Fekir, but his injury means no move will go ahead this summer.
The Reds have already tied up a deal for Monaco’s Fabinho this summer, but were pressing ahead with their attempts to land a creative player who could play in midfield and attack.
Having lost Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in January, it’s no surprise that Jurgen Klopp was seeking something of a replacement, and Lyon’s Nabil Fekir emerged as the top target.
The 24-year-old smashed 23 goals for hometown club Lyon this past season and looked all set for a move to Anfield, but late haggling from Liverpool saw the French side pull the plug on a deal.
With Fekir’s move off, Liverpool may need to look for an alternative target, but one of their main options is also off the table as The Telegraph report that West Ham United’s Manuel Lanzini was a prime candidate.
However, the Argentinian suffered knee ligament damage in recent days, ruling him out of the World Cup and meaning he will spend the summer rehabilitating rather than making a summer move.
Lanzini hit five goals and six assists this past season as he continued to show his quality for the Hammers, but injuries again meant that West Ham couldn’t see the best of the former River Plate man.
Lanizni would have been more of a gamble than Fekir in terms of stepping up to the big stage, and with his injury ruling out any bid from Liverpool, it remains to be seen where the Reds go from here.
