According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool are interested in signing Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

It’s claimed that Manchester United are particularly keen on Branthwaite having tracked his progress on loan at Blackburn Rovers this year.

However, the report adds that Manchester City are also interested in Branthwaite, alongside local rivals Liverpool.

Everton only paid £1million for Branthwaite in January 2020, luring him to Goodison Park having impressed in League Two with Carlisle United.

The 18-year-old impressed in limited appearances last season, but has now been sent out on loan to Blackburn Rovers after slipping down the pecking order.

Branthwaite has been playing regularly for Tony Mowbray’s Rovers side since his January move, and he is seemingly being tracked by the Premier League’s big boys.

As a left-footed and 6ft 5in centre back, Branthwaite ticks the boxes for many teams looking for a defender for the future, but selling to Liverpool would be difficult to justify.

Everton won’t want to lose a top young talent to a local rival, whilst Liverpool’s recent move for Ben Davies – another left-footed centre back – makes a move for Branthwaite seem even more unlikely.
