According to The Mirror, Liverpool are interested in signing Ajax defender Perr Schuurs as they look for a new centre back.
The Reds lost star defender Virgil van Dijk to a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury earlier this month, and their defensive injury situation looks bleak.
Joel Matip and Fabinho are also out, meaning Nat Phillips was called upon to partner Joe Gomez against West Ham United on Saturday.
It’s now stated that Liverpool are eyeing up a move for Ajax star Schuurs to aid their defensive woes – and he’s no stranger to the Anfield coaching staff.
Schuurs had a trial spell at Liverpool two years ago, as they considered signing him from Fortuna Sittard – both eventually chose not to bring him to Anfield permanently.
The 20-year-old is now a starter for Ajax having nailed down a first-team spot under Erik ten Hag, and Liverpool are casting admiring glances once again.

The report notes that Schuurs has actually been compared to fellow Dutchman Van Dijk, whislt Jurgen Klopp and the rest of his staff have allegedly been raving about how impressive Schuurs was when Liverpool faced Ajax earlier this month.
Given Liverpool’s need for a centre back and Schuurs’ previous trial spell at Anfield, this is a move that would make some sense – but the youngster is still just one of a host of defenders ben linked with the Reds right now.
