Liverpool have joined the race for Sampdoria centre-back Omar Colley with a £10.8 million release clause making him one of the window’s most achievable bargain signings, according to SampNews24.
While Jurgen Klopp has spent most of the summer months playing down speculation linking Liverpool with some of the biggest names in the market, that doesn’t mean the Premier League champions won’t bring anyone in before the 5 October deadline.
For £11 million, the Reds felt an opportunity to land one of Europe’s most exciting young full-backs, Kostas Tsimikas, couldn’t be missed.
And with Colley available for a similar fee, Liverpool could add some much-needed depth at centre-half for less than Burnley paid, for example, to land Ben Gibson.
At the age of 27, Colley isn’t exactly the kind of fresh-faced talent Klopp tends to prioritise.
But this is a player who is improving year on year, shining since moving to Italy in 2018 after spells in Finland, Sweden, Belgium and his native Gambia.

A fearsome physical presence who stands 6ft 3in, Colley might not be a guaranteed starter at Anfield but would offer competition for Joe Gomez and the injury-hit Joel Matip.
Liverpool have yet to replace Dejan Lovren, while teenagers Ki-Jana Hoever and Sepp van der Berg don’t seem ready for a regular Premier League role.
It remains to be seen, however, if Colley would accept being a squad player at Liverpool instead of a key man at the likes of West Brom or Burnley.
