According to Sky Sports, Liverpool will only allow Rhian Brewster to leave the club if a a buy-back clause is inserted into the deal.
It’s claimed that Newcastle made an enquiry into signing Brewster, as they wanted to learn what Liverpool’s plans were for him.
Liverpool weren’t interested in sending him to Newcastle, believing that he wouldn’t play the necessary first-team football to develop his game.
Newcastle have now signed Callum Wilson from Bournemouth, suggesting that Liverpool’s intuition was correct on this one.
Aston Villa, Brighton and Hove Albion and Sheffield United have now expressed their interest in Brewster, but Liverpool are particular about the terms.
They want to make sure a buy-back clause is inserted in any deal for the 20-year-old striker to leave permanently this summer.
Liverpool seemingly think that Brewster maybe isn’t quite ready to make an impact in Jurgen Klopp’s first team this season, but he could be a star of the future.
A buy-back deal could cost Liverpool big money in the future, as it could look a little similar to Manchester City’s 2017 sale of Kelechi Iheanacho.
The Daily Mail reported at the time that City sold Iheanacho to Leicester City for £25million, but would retain a £50million buyback clause in the move.
The numbers could be similar with Brewster, maybe a little cheaper, but the Iheanacho deal goes to show how much Liverpool may have to spend to get Brewster back.
