According to The Mirror, Liverpool are in the race to sign Monaco star Benjamin Mendy, alongside Chelsea and Manchester City.
Monaco’s Champions League success over City has seen many of their players become hot property, with the likes of Djibril Sidibe, Fabinho, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Thomas Lemar, Bernardo Silva and Kylian Mbappe all attracting interest.
Another player on the radar of Europe’s elite is left back Benjamin Mendy, who only joined Monaco from Ligue 1 rivals Marseille last summer.
The 22-year-old left back, formerly of Le Havre, made his France debut against Luxembourg last month, could leave Monaco after just one year now, as clubs are allegedly lining up for his signature.
The Mirror claim that Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City are all in the race to sign Mendy, a pacey, attack-minded full back with great crossing ability.
Chelsea’s need for a left back isn’t exactly desperate right now, as Marcos Alonso has enjoyed a superb season, and Antonio Conte can also use Nathan Ake at left wing back if needed.

However, Liverpool must sign a left back this summer. 2014 addition Alberto Moreno has failed to impress since his move from Sevilla, and whilst James Milner has filled in admirably this season, he is still a midfielder playing a left back.
A natural left back is needed, and Mendy fits the bill perfectly considering Jurgen Klopp’s attacking style of play, but he’s also shown himself to be more solid defensively than Moreno, who looks set to leave this summer.
Whether Liverpool can fend off such strong competition remains to be seen though, as Manchester City are also in the market for a left back given Gael Clichy and Aleksandar Kolarov’s advancing years, and the Reds may need Champions League football to compete with Chelsea and City for Mendy’s signature.
