Liverpool are going to have to strengthen their team in a big way this summer.
The Reds are 16 points behind Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table and it looks pretty certain that the title will not be returning to Anfield come May.
That being said, Liverpool, who have had to chop and change their back four every other week since October due to injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, will surely come stronger next season.
And if rumours are believed, the Merseyside club have already identified one target.
According to Larazon and Calciomercato, Liverpool are keen on Sevilla attacker Lucas Ocampos, who has a £56 million release clause.
The report adds that the Reds are ‘willing’ to make a summer bid for the 26-year-old Argentine, whose contract expires in three-and-a-bit years.
Ocampos, who has seven caps for his country, can play on the left or right-hand side of attack and has netted seven goals in 31 games for Sevilla across all competitions this season.
He is predominantly a left-sided player but a big-money move like this makes little sense unless one of Sadio Mane or Mo Salah plans to leave Liverpool.
The closer we get to the summer transfer window, the more rumours there’ll be, but this one doesn’t make a huge deal of sense as of right now and although Ocampos – who scored 17 last term – is a good player, he may not be Mane or Salah quality.
