Leicester City’s FA Cup final hero Youri Tielemans is a leading candidate to replace Gini Wijnaldum at Premier League giants Liverpool, as reported by Het Nieuwsblad.

Jurgen Klopp would have been forgiven for wiping away stray tears as Wijnaldum waved goodbye to Anfield on Sunday.

But football moves fast and, should Tielemans make the journey from the Midlands to Merseyside, the versatile Dutchman may be quickly consigned to history.

Belgian publication Nieuwsblad claims the £40 million former Monaco misfit is on Liverpool’s radar as they look to replace one of the most versatile and dependable footballers in the Premier League.

Could Youri Tielemans become Liverpool’s next Wijnaldum?

Now, Leicester may have made selling a star player something of an annual tradition at the King Power but whether Tielemans will follow Ben Chilwell, Danny Drinkwater, Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante out the door remains to be seen.

The Foxes are a far more powerful outfit these days – speaking from both a financial and sporting perspective.

Then again, missing out on Champions League football for the second straight season will hardly boost Brendan Rodgers’ hopes of keeping arguably the club’s greatest ever crop of players together.

Liverpool, unlike Leicester, can offer Tielemans a seat at Europe’s top table having recovered from their own winter of discontent to finish a respectable third in the Premier League.

“Of course, I’ve observed some players from Anderlecht and I’ve seen some really good ones. Youri Tielemans is one of these players,” Klopp said in 2014, when Dortmund were preparing for a Champions League clash against a teenage Tielemans.
