Liverpool are interested in signing Roger Ibanez from AS Roma after Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur made summer approaches for the £35 million-rated Brazilian, as reported by Roma Live.

Publicly at least, the Premier League champions have played down suggestions a new centre-half could be heading to Anfield in the January transfer window.

But a long line of defensive injuries, with Joel Matip the latest victim, appears to have changed matters (Sunday World).

And, according to reports in Italy, 22-year-old Ibanez has emerged as a potential target for Liverpool after a superb start to the season with Scudetto dark horses Roma.

Paulo Fonseca’s side will demand about £35 million for a man they snapped up from Serie A rivals Atalanta in 2019.

Leicester City and Spurs both showed interest in the summer, while Ibanez also has admirers at the Parc des Princes.

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo apparently thinks the Brazil U21 ace could replace compatriot Thiago Silva in the French capital.

But with Ligue 1 embroiled in a financial crisis after the collapse of a billion-dollar TV contract (NY Times), it seems unlikely PSG will be able to stump up the £35 million Roma want for their classy centre-half.
