Liverpool hope to sign Sevilla goalkeeper Alfonso Pastor when his contract expires this summer although, according to AS, Jurgen Klopp’s side face competition from a host of La Liga giants.

There’s certainly no shortage of top-quality, home-grown shot-stoppers plying their trade on Spanish soil.

Unfortunately for Pastor one of the best, Yassine Bounou, is currently undisputed number one at Sevilla’s Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

Bounou’s remarkable consistency means Pastor, despite his undoubted potential, has had to wait for an opportunity in Andalusia. The 20-year-old has been on the bench for 15 La Liga fixtures in 2020/21, although he was handed a start for the 4-0 Champions League defeat at the hands of Chelsea in December.

Pastor’s eye-catching displays at youth level, however, mean there’s no shortage of suitors jostling for position as the summer transfer window swings open.

AS reports Liverpool hope to sign the former Spain U17 international on a free.

There’s a plan in place too. Pastor would initially play for Barry Lewtas’ U23 side before stepping up to compete for a first-team berth with Alisson Becker after 12 months on Merseyside.

Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also reported to be interested.

The Daily Mail reported at the weekend that veteran Reds keeper Adrian expected to be handed a new contract at Liverpool but you would imagine, if Pastor chooses Anfield over a host of other options, the former West Ham stopper would be allowed to leave after all.
