According to RMC Sport, Liverpool are ‘very interested’ in signing Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar – but are yet to make contact about a move.

It’s claimed that Aouar was convinced to stay at Lyon by Juninho last summer, but the timing may now be right for him to leave the club.

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are keen, but it’s added that Liverpool want him too. The Reds haven’t made any ‘direct contact’ yet according to the report.

Lyon are allegedly looking for a deal of around €50million (£44.5million), seemingly slashing his asking price as a result of the global pandemic.

The Daily Mail noted back in April that Aouar was valued at around £65million, meaning this is now a £20million discount.

Aouar, 21, has hit nine goals and seven assists this season. He is capable of playing centrally, out wide or as a number 10, and would bring real creativity to Liverpool.

City boss Pep Guardiola is a big fan. He branded Aouar ‘incredible’ back in 2018, having seen the French star impress against his City side.

Beating City to his signature would be a huge coup for Liverpool, but they need to figure out whether they can afford to push for a deal in the current climate, even with that discount.
