According to The Sun, Liverpool have turned down the chance to sign Patrick van Aanholt from Premier League rivals Crystal Palace in the summer transfer window.

It has been reported that Van Aanholt was offered to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp as cover for first-choice left-back Andy Robertson.

However, the German coach has decided not to make a move for the 28-year-old left-back, as the former Chelsea and Sunderland defender does not fit his criteria, according to the report.

Praise for Liverpool

Van Aanholt is a very experienced left-back, and the Dutchman has been on the books of Liverpool since 2017.

The Netherlands international left-back spoke highly of Liverpool back on May 7, 2019 following their stunning win against Barcelona in the Champions League.

On that day, Liverpool got the better of Spanish and European giants Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final tie.

The result meant that the Reds progressed to the final of Europe’s premier club competition 4-3 on aggregate.
