Liverpool’s move for Ibrahima Konaté has become complicated, as RB Leipzig want the funds in a lump sum, the Times report.

Liverpool appear to have made Konate their top choice signing in central defence, and a deal looked on the verge of completion just a few weeks back.

However, RB Leipzig are now said to be asking for the money up-front.

Liverpool, on the other hand, are hoping to pay his £34 million release clause in instalments.

The Reds are known not have lavish sums to spend, but by paying monthly, it would help Liverpool to spread the cost over a long period of time.

While the Times doesn’t say that the deal is now dead, with Leipzig asking for all the funds at once, it does claim that there is some doubt over whether the transfer will go through now.

Liverpool’s board will have to be very cautious of the backlash if they fail to land Konate at this point.

Most at Anfield are fully expecting the central defender to be added to their group.

And with pressure mounting on FSG, if they baulk at paying £34 million for a player this summer, they could face even more heavy criticism.
