The Guardian claim Liverpool and Juventus are keeping tabs on Chelsea and England playmaker Mason Mount – with the midfielder’s contract due to expire in 2024 and contract talks hold until after his participation at the World Cup.

Mount, 23, continues to be one of Chelsea’s best players after breaking into his boyhood side’s first team under Frank Lampard. Clocking up 181 appearances for the Blues, he has had a hand in 69 goals. He has also won 32 England caps.

But his contract ends in June 2024. Chelsea have a recent history of losing some of their best players for nothing. Just look at Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and others. They will be desperate not to lose their star player Mount.

More pressing concerns for Chelsea will be the future of Jorginho and N’Golo Kante, who see their deals expire next summer. But keeping Mount will be a priority as talks over a new deal have been shelved until after the World Cup.

It is believed Mount is one of the lower earners in Chelsea’s first team and he wants a deal to reflect his position in the side. But, with talks yet to be sorted out, Liverpool and Juve are tracking the England World Cup star ahead of January.

What a signing he would be for Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp’s side need a midfielder. Jordan Henderson, Thiago and James Milner all in their thirties. They could also do with a player that is not as prone to injury as some of their current stars.

Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Thiago have all had their issues. Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain are out of contract next summer. A player like Mount would be the ideal addition at Anfield. Seems unlikely, though.

Indeed, the likelihood is that he continues with his boyhood club. He will surely want to remain at Chelsea, and Chelsea will want to keep him. Antonio Rudiger has previously branded the England ace as “phenomenal”.
