Liverpool are reportedly set to offer Fabinho a new contract, according to ESPN.

The 27-year-old Brazilian has two years remaining on his current deal but is set to be rewarded with a fresh deal.

Fabinho has underlined his importance to the club this season, currently filling in for Virgil van Dijk at centre half.

He may well be there for the foreseeable future, and put in a strong performance in the 1-0 win at Ajax on Wednesday night.

Jurgen Klopp is clearly a huge admirer of the versatile Brazilian, and called him ‘outstanding’ after his display in the 2-0 September win at Chelsea.

That was another game where he played at the heart of defence and kept the likes of Timo Werner quiet.

Fabinho’s current deal would take him up to the age of 29 at Anfield, so any new deal really would tie him down for his absolute peak years.

It makes complete sense for Liverpool; Fabinho is one of the best holding midfielders in world football and is playing central defence to the level some elite rivals would likely wish their first-choice options could.

A new deal would be a deserved reward for a strong start to the season, coming while he still has time left on his current contract.

That avoids potential chatter over his future and it would be a boost for Klopp to have him tied down in the coming weeks.

Reds fans will hope for more years of dominant performances, wherever Fabinho plays on the pitch.
