The Reds have already got one Welsh wonderkid on their books in Ben Woodburn, but they’re keen to add another.
Liverpool look set to miss out on Welsh prodigy Ethan Ampadu despite the 16-year-old having impressed in a trial with The Reds, the Liverpool Echo reports.
The stylish centre-half is one of the most exciting British talents around, with almost every big club showing an interest in the Exeter City sensation.
Ampadu became The Grecians youngest ever debutant when he featured against Bradford City in the EFL Cup in August aged just 15, but he had already turned the heads of Liverpool long before then.
The Reds were very keen on signing the versatile defender when he arrived at Anfield for a trial two years ago, only for Ampadu to reject their advances and remain on the South Coast.
However, he now looks set to make the next step in his career, with Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal also expressing an interest in a player who was invited to train with the Wales senior squad by manager Chris Coleman prior to Euro 2016.
The Liverpool Echo add that Jurgen Klopp’s side are desperate for Ampadu to return to Merseyside but, as his father works in the academy system at Arsenal, a switch to the Emirates appears more likely.
Then again, it’s not a bad problem to have for a player who has already made ten senior appearances at the age where most teenagers are preparing for their GCSEs.
Arsenal and Liverpool are both renowned for bringing through young players and, although his Welsh under-19 team-mate Ben Woodburn might have something to say about it, it appears that Arsene Wenger is about to add yet another prodigious youngster to his squad.
