Liverpool are reported to have been impressed by Nathaniel Clyne’s performances for Southampton this season.
Liverpool are prepared to increase their offer for Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
The Reds had a £10 million bid rejected for Clyne earlier this morning, but they have not been put off by Southampton’s initial refusal.
Brendan Rodgers feels that Clyne could be a vital addition to his team and is reportedly prepared to spend big to land the 24-year-old.
Southampton are reluctant to lose the defender but, with only one year left on Clyne’s contract, they will reportedly listen to offers in excess of £15 million.
The Saints do not want to risk losing Clyne on a free transfer and, if they are given a sizeable fee, they will cash in on the England international.
If Clyne does leave Southampton, it will be a major blow to the side ahead of the new campaign as he has become such a key player for them.
Clyne’s defensive solidarity, matched with his attacking prowess, makes him one of the most accomplished full-backs in the Premier League and he would be very difficult for Ronald Koeman to replace.
