According to Il Milanista, Liverpool are expected to hold talks with AC Milan over the signing of Franck Kessie this month.

What’s the story?

Well, both Liverpool and Tottenham are keen to sign the 44-cap Ivory Coast international, while Paris Saint-Germain are also interested.

Il Milanista believe Jürgen Klopp is looking for an alternative to Fabinho, as there isn’t really a player like the Brazilian at Anfield.

A backup for him certainly wouldn’t go amiss.

AC Milan visit Anfield on September 15th, and Il Milanista claim that talks regarding Kessie are likely to ‘deepen’ when that game comes around.

However, Paolo Maldini – AC Milan’s Technical Director – wants Thiago in exchange, which will surely cause problems.

Liverpool would be mad to swap Thiago for Franck Kessie

Make no mistake about it, Kessie is a fantastic player who would certainly inject plenty of quality into Klopp’s squad.

However, the £24m man isn’t worth losing a player of Thiago’s ability for.

Liverpool need to replace Gini Wijnaldum, and Kessie would be a fine option to step into the Dutchman’s shoes.

Having said that, there’s no point in losing Thiago in order to sign the 24-year-old – that would be a sideways move in every sense of the phrase.

Also – perhaps more significantly – Kessie will be a free agent in June, so Liverpool could simply wait until next summer.

Of course, the Reds run the risk of the Ivorian signing a new deal with AC Milan in that time, although that risk is certainly better than losing Thiago.
