Liverpool are reportedly set to beat Arsenal and Manchester City to the signing of Porto youngster Diogo Leite.

The reigning Portuguese champions, who confirmed their first Primeira Liga title since 2012/13 at the weekend, don’t want to lose Leite but the Reds have made their interest clear.

The Merseyside club have been impressed with the 19-year-old’s performances for the Porto B side this season, while the defender has also earned his first three caps for the Portugal Under-20s this term.
Leite has a €15m (£13.1m) release clause that the Gunners are prepared to meet, but it still seems that Anfield is the centre-back’s most likely destination.

That is because the club, under the guidance of manager Jurgen Klopp, has built a strong reputation for nurturing young talent since taking the German was given the job in October 2015.
Several scouts from sides in England’s top flight watched Leite in action as he helped his team beat Arsenal Under-23s 1-0 in the final of the Premier League International Cup on Tuesday (May 8).
