Is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain leaving Liverpool?
According to a new report, definitely not.
The 28-year-old has been linked with a transfer away from Liverpool this summer.
Aston Villa are reportedly interested and even Manchester United are linked with a surprise £10 million move.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, a £40 million signing in 2017 [The Guardian], is barely even a squad player under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield any longer.
The former Arsenal winger didn’t make the squad in any of Liverpool’s last seven games of the 2021-22 campaign, highlighting how the Reds don’t really need him all that much.
However, Calvin Ramsay’s imminent arrival is likely to spell the end of Klopp’s summer business.
And according to The Mirror, Oxlade-Chamberlain has been told that he will not be allowed to leave Merseyside this summer.
The report adds that Liverpool’s owners would prefer to lose the England international – out of contract in 12 months – on a free transfer next year rather than sell him before September and have to sign an alternative to replace him.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain leaving Liverpool a wise good decision?
Oxlade-Chamberlain leaving Liverpool is probably the player’s preference, by virtue of the fact that he has struggled majorly for regular football under the German manager.
And the addition of another midfielder would’ve been the coffin nail in his Anfield career.
However, talent has never been Oxlade-Chamberlain’s problem; it’s consistency which holds him back and therefore he is both the cause and solution of his own downfall.
This is a player more than capable of being a big asset for Liverpool again and it’ll be fascinating to see what next season holds for him.
