Liverpool have signed several players from Southampton in recent years, and appear interested in buying two more.

A report in The Sun has claimed that Liverpool are interested in signing Southampton pair Virgil van Dijk and Sam McQueen.

The Sun reports that the Reds – who have bought several players from the club in recent years – have earmarked the Saints pair as potential targets as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his defensive options.

Van Dijk is only a few months in to a six-year deal at St Mary’s, but The Sun suggests that Klopp is hopeful about his chances of bringing the Netherlands international to Anfield.

Meanwhile, with The Sun adding that McQueen is out of contract at the end of the current campaign, it would hardly be a surprise if the Merseyside outfit also fancied their chances when it comes to trying to land the 21-year-old.

While McQueen is yet to really fully establish himself in Claude Puel’s side, it is safe to say that van Dijk has done enough to attract the attention of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.

There were some doubts about how well he would settle in England having previously played in the Scottish Premiership with Celtic, but he has been exceptional since moving to the south coast, and his form has arguably been a key reason why the Saints boast the best defensive record – which, of course, was helped by a clean sheet against the Reds this past weekend – outside of the top five.
