Chelsea midfielder Lewis Bate is undergoing a medical with Leeds United today as he closes in on a move to Elland Road.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Leeds are paying £1.5million to bring Bate to Elland Road.

There are add-ons involved too, but Bate will be in Leeds today in order to finalise his medical and become a Leeds player.

Chelsea have a sell-on clause in the deal, but no buy-back clause meaning the Whites can fully dictate his asking price in the future.

Liverpool, Southampton and West Ham United all spoke to Chelsea about signing Bate, but it’s Leeds who have won the race.

The 18-year-old has been considered as one of the top young talents in the Chelsea ranks, but he has held fears over the path to first-team football at Stamford Bridge.

Bate has registered six goals and five assists in 29 games for Chelsea’s Under-18’s, and already has 25 Under-23 appearances to his name.

Leeds will now hope to see Bate emerge as a first-team player at Elland Road, and beating Liverpool to his signature is a major coup for Victor Orta and co.
