FC Sochaux could be willing to sell talented youngster Willy Kambwala for around £2 million with Liverpool interested in another fresh-faced teenager, according to RMC Sport.

They say you are never more vulnerable than when you stand still and, though the Reds have stormed to the Premier League title in record-setting time, there are nagging concerns on Merseyside that next season will be far, far tougher.

Manchester City are already planning a £150 million spending spree as Pep Guardiola looks to usurp Jurgen Klopp’s throne, according to the Guardian.

Kalidou Koulibaly, David Alaba and a superstar striker are all on City’s radar.

Manchester United, Chelsea and potentially even Arsenal should be stronger too, with Mikel Arteta somehow managing to transform a shambles of a defence into something resembling a reliable backline – well, most of the time.

Though if Liverpool fans were hoping to see Kai Havertz or a Timo Werner arrive to strengthen an already fearsome squad, they will be disappointed.

Klopp told Sky Sports recently that mega-money signings are nothing but a pipe dream during a period of cutbacks and slashed budgets.

As a result, Liverpool are expected to replicate the summer of 2019 instead, when wonderkids Harvey Elliott and Sepp Van den Berg arrived at Anfield from Fulham and PEC Zwolle respectively.

France Football reported last week that Kambwala, a 6ft 3ins centre-half from a country who specialises in producing world class defenders, is the latest teenager on Liverpool’s radar.

What’s more Sochaux are willing to listen to offers of £2 million, after rejecting a bid of half that fee from Manchester United (RMC).

Havertz and Werner might be too expensive in today’s market. But £2 million remains pocket change for a club of Liverpool’s stature.
