According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, AC Milan now want to sign Schalke defender Ozan Kabak amid reports linking him with Liverpool.

Milan allegedly want to prioritise a new defender, and are already working towards a new signing in the January transfer window.

Kabak is believed to be a top target, though Hellas Verona defender Matteo Lovato is thought to be wanted too.

Kabak, 20, started out at Galatasaray in his native Turkey, and has since impressed in Germany with both Stuttgart and Schalke.

A strong and powerful centre back who can also play out from the back, and Milan aren’t alone in pursuing him given that Liverpool are also claimed to be interested.

The Mirror reported over the weekend that Liverpool have opened talks over a deal to sign Kabak in a deal worth an initial £20million.

Liverpool need another centre back having seen Virgil van Dijk go down with a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury, and Kabak appears to be a prime target.

Liverpool will still back themselves to beat Milan in the race if they really are keen, but they seem to be facing new competition for the youngster.
