Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have signed a pre-agreement with Benfica to secure the services of Enzo Fernandez in the summer of 2023 after anticipating moves from Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, according to La Capital.

The report has claimed that Liverpool have an agreement in principle with Benfica over signing Argentina international midfielder Fernandez in the summer of 2023.

The Merseyside club believe that Premier League rivals Manchester United and Manchester City are planning moves for the 21-year-old central midfielder next summer.

So, according to the report in the Argentine news outlet, Liverpool have come to an arrangement with Benfica to sign Fernandez – described as “intelligent” and “terrific” by former Manchester City and Argentina international right-back Pablo Zabaleta on BBC this month – to bring him to Anfield at the end of the season.

La Capital are the only news outlet making this claim at the moment.

While the Portuguese press have been reporting that Liverpool are leading the race for Fernandez, they have yet to mention about any kind of concrete deal between the Reds and Benfica.

We do not think that Benfica will sell the Argentine youngster in the middle of the season.

If the Portuguese giants are to cash in on Fernandez, then they are likely to do so next summer.
