According to Calciomercato, Liverpool remain keen on Lazio star Joaquin Correa despite him signing a new contract back in October.

Reports of Liverpool’s interest in Correa first emerged last month, as Lazio-based website Cittaceleste claimed that the Reds want him.

His release clause of €80million (£70million) represents a big problem, but Liverpool were allegedly keen to pay €60million (£52.5million) plus rescinding their 30% sell-on clause for Luis Alberto.

Now, it’s claimed that Jurgen Klopp has personally put Correa on his wish list, and will continue to pursue him despite him signing a new contract until 2024 earlier this season.

The 25-year-old has even admitted that he would ‘like to play in England’ and will improve his English in order to eventually make that move to the Premier League.

Lazio have at least put a massive block in the way with that huge release clause and new deal, but Liverpool will allegedly pursue a deal anyway.

The €16million (£14million) signing from Sevilla has hit 17 goals and 10 assists in 71 games for Lazio, thriving playing off Ciro Immobile in Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2.

Liverpool may view him as a candidate to play as a false nine, offering competition for Roberto Firmino whilst also being able to play out wide – but it’s hard to see them paying anything like £70million or even £50million given the global pandemic.
