Liverpool fans may be forgiven for forgetting that Fabio Carvalho is still their player after barely featuring for the club in recent months.
Despite starting his Liverpool career in a promising fashion, the young attacking midfielder has found game time hard to come by as of late – spending most of his time watching from the sidelines as the Merseyside club continue to struggle.
However, The Athletic are reporting that the Liverpool hierarchy still rate Carvalho highly, despite his limited gametime.
Carvalho arrived at Anfield in the summer from Fulham and made an immediate impact. He scored a last-minute winner against Newcastle in September and genuinely looked like he could be a regular part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad as he continued to get regular minutes.

But the 20-year-old has played just three minutes in the league since November, while he didn’t even get a chance in the Reds’ FA Cup games against Brighton or Wolves.
Despite this lack of opportunities, Carvalho is still highly regarded at Liverpool – as he should be.
We shouldn’t forget that this was the most promising player in the Championship last season, and at the age of just 20, he has time on his side.
Liverpool fans may be concerned about Carvalho’s lack of game time, but it’s important to remember that he’s still young and developing. Sometimes a young player needs a gradual introduction into Premier League football, especially at a club like Liverpool.
The Athletic’s report suggests that Liverpool are prepared to be patient with Carvalho and that they see him as a long-term project who could eventually make a real impact at Anfield.
It remains to be seen when Carvalho will get his next chance to impress for Liverpool, but given that he’s still rated highly, it may not be long before he’s getting regular chances to impress.
