Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius going nowhere despite interest from Augsburg.
Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp
Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius will not be leaving the club this summer despite a difficult first year in England and reported interest from the Bundesliga.
Karius joined the Reds from Mainz in the summer of 2016 for a fee the BBC reported to be £4.7m and was given a run of 10 successive Premier League starts in the early part of the season.
However, after receiving plenty of criticism – particularly for his display in a 4-3 defeat to AFC Bournemouth – manager Juergen Klopp decided to take the 23-year-old out of the firing line and Simon Mignolet was reinstated between the sticks.
From then on Karius was used exclusively in cup competitions, leading to speculation that he would be leaving Anfield; with the Sun claiming Augsburg were interested in bringing him back to Germany.
However, the stopper’s agent, Florian Goll, has denied that the German will be exiting Merseyside and will stay and fight for his place.
Liverpool’s Loris Karius
“There is absolutely nothing to the rumours that Karius will leave,” Goll told Goal.
“He did not sign at Liverpool for the short term – he believes in the vision of the manager and he wants to be fully fit and prepared to fight for the No.1 position from the first day back.”
Karius made 16 appearances in total for Klopp’s side in his first year at the club, with three coming in the FA Cup and three in the EFL Cup.
