Report: Liverpool set to hand five-year contract to youngster Robertson called ‘amazing’

According to a report from Goal, Liverpool are preparing a new and improved five-year contract for Neco Williams.

The Reds are making it a priority to tie down their young sensations. Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott signed their new deals recently and Williams is set to follow the duo by committing his long-term future at Anfield.

The report claims that Jurgen Klopp views the young Welshman as a first-team player now. The young full-back has certainly impressed the Liverpool boss, and the German showed his faith by playing him in six of their last nine league games, which made Williams eligible for a Premier League winners’ medal.

Still only 19, Williams has a bright future ahead of him. The Welshman is by no means an immediate challenger to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s right-back spot, but he could well stake his claim in a few years time.

Alexander-Arnold has been tipped by many to thrive in an advanced central midfield role. That would open the door for both Williams and the Englishman to play together for the Reds in the same team for years to come.

Andy Robertson is a big fan of Williams

Williams, in a short space of time, has earned lots of plaudits from fans, pundits and even his teammates. Andy Robertson is one who has publicly hailed the youngster, predicting ‘a fantastic career in the game’ for Williams.

He told Liverpool’s official website last month: “I’ve spoken to him, I’ve given him small pointers but I’m not sure he needs them, because he’s got so much ability and so much energy, so much confidence in his own ability that he’ll have a fantastic career in the game.

“He’s been amazing in training all season so I’m glad he’s starting to get his reward with making his debut, getting his first start and then getting a couple of consecutive starts under his belt.”

Liverpool securing Williams’ long-term future is fantastic news for the club. The focus will now be on Klopp to get the best of him and, after what the German has achieved over the last few years, nobody will bet against him.
