According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool scouts still really like Watford winger Ismaila Sarr – but a move now looks unlikely.
It’s claimed that Liverpool have followed Sarr ‘closely’ in recent times, and strongly considered a move for him in this transfer window.
In the end, Liverpool went with Diogo Jota in a £41million deal, with Wolves’ flexible stance on the payment method seemingly making the difference.
Could Liverpool still sign Sarr? Well, that seems unlikely having just signed one new attacker to help Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, whilst Takumi Minamino joined in January.
Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders played a key role in the move having worked with Jota at Porto, and the fee involved was important.
Ryan Gray from the Watford Observer added that a £40million valuation on Sarr was lower than the price Watford were expecting – and £40million ‘wouldn’t buy his left leg’.

It’s therefore unsurprising that the Reds went with Jota, who has versatility to play across the front line and has shown himself to be superb at pressing.
Maybe Sarr will remain on the Liverpool radar for some time yet, but Jota’s move to Anfield makes it seem very unlikely.
