According to Sky Germany, Liverpool have been joined by Chelsea in the race for Red Bull Salzburg striker Patson Daka.

It’s claimed that RB Leipzig would really like to sign Daka, and their close ties to Salzburg obviously make that move feasible.

However, Liverpool and Chelsea are in the race too, and Sky Germany’s transfer guru Max Bielefeld branded Daka an ‘incredible’ player.

Liverpool star Sadio Mane held up as a big influence on Daka

One interesting note in Bielefeld’s report was to mention Sadio Mane as an influence or example for Daka.

Mane was also at Red Bull Salzburg once upon a time before exploding and becoming a Liverpool star.

Fellow African Daka could end up joining Mane at Anfield, though missing the intermediary step; Mane starred at Southampton before heading to Anfield.

Maybe Daka sees Mane as an example of what he could become in the Premier League; a potent attacker with devastating pace and a favourite of Jurgen Klopp.

Do Liverpool need Daka?

Yes. Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah are all inching closer to 30, and the signing of Diogo Jota last summer indicated that fresh options will be brought in for Klopp.

Daka would represent exactly that. He’s just 22 and enjoyed a ridiculous campaign last season, smashing 34 goals and 12 assists in 42 games.

Beating Chelsea won’t be easy, but Liverpool would surely love to have a threat like Daka in their side – and if Mane’s success can help them, that would be just great.

Liverpool fans have even started the recruitment drive early, bombarding him with messages telling him to sign.
