Liverpool are reportedly involved in the race to sign Burnley goalkeeper and Aston Villa target Tom Heaton.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Liverpool are interested in signing Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton this summer, with Aston Villa also weighing up a move for the England international.
Heaton’s future at Turf Moor has a question mark hanging over it this summer after a campaign in which he battled with both Nick Pope and Joe Hart for the number one spot in Sean Dyche’s side.
The 33-year-old made 22 appearances in all competitions. But the Mail suggests that he could still be on the way out during this window, with Liverpool and Villa interested in pursuing the former Manchester United trainee.
A deal could be dependent however, on whether Hart leaves the Clarets. The Mail suggests that he could quit after just one year, and it would be a big surprise if Dyche was willing to let both goalkeepers move on, especially with the new season looming rapidly on the horizon.

Liverpool have had to take Andy Lonergan on their pre-season tour with Alisson Becker returning late after helping Brazil to Copa America glory earlier in the summer. Lonergan certainly did not let himself down when he started against Sevilla, but does not appear to be in contention to earn a deal with the Champions League winners.
What will encourage Villa in the race for Heaton is the fact that Dean Smith’s men will be able to offer him the number one role, whereas it appears extremely unlikely that Heaton will get much game-time on Merseyside with Alisson proving to be a sensational signing for the Reds.
