According to a story penned by Alan Nixon on his Patreon, Liverpool have rejected an opening offer from Nottingham Forest for Neco Williams.

The right-back is in high demand this summer after a successful loan spell with Fulham, but it is Nottingham Forest who have made the first move to sign the Welshman.

The newly-promoted outfit are themselves in need of a right-back after Djed Spence returned to Middlesbrough after a successful loan spell, and they’ve offered Liverpool £11m plus a further £4m in potential add-ons for Williams.

Unfortunately for the Tricky Trees, Liverpool have knocked back this initial bid, with Nixon claiming that the Merseysiders want a much higher guaranteed fee.

It has previously been reported that the Anfield outfit are looking for around £20m for Williams, and this bid falls well short of that price point.

Liverpool may be playing a dangerous game here. With Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Djed Spence cooling, Forest could well look elsewhere after having this bid rejected, while Fulham seem intent on signing Kevin Mbabu, which would leave no space for Williams at Craven Cottage.

The so-called ‘outstanding’ defender won’t be featuring move for Jurgen Klopp’s side if he stays either. Trent Alexander-Arnold is almost undroppable in this Liverpool team, while Calvin Ramsay has just been signed as the England international’s new deputy, so Williams is at a bit of a career crossroads.

The Welshman needs to find a move soon, especially with a World Cup in Qatar on the horizon.
