Inter Milan could be without star defender Alessandro Bastoni for next week’s UEFA Champions League clash against Liverpool after the centre-back was injured.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian international is a major doubt to face the Reds after suffering an injury last night in Inter’s Coppa Italia quarter-final clash against AS Roma, where Bastoni was forced off after just 43 minutes.
The 22-year-old was already set to miss the next two Serie A matches after being found guilty by the Italian FA for insulting an official during the Milan derby, meaning that Inter will be short in the defence for next week’s trip to Liverpool.
The two clubs will face off at the San Siro in the first leg of what is to be a headline series in the Champions League, with Inter currently top of the Serie A table and Liverpool one of two clubs to win all six of their group stage matches earlier in the tournament.
Yet the news that Bastoni could be out injured for Inter is massive for both the Nerazzurri and Liverpool, with the 22-year-old one of the club’s most important players and a focal point for their defence.
The youngster has made an astonishing 29 appearances in all competitions for Inter, and with Bastoni potentially missing the clash against Liverpool after picking up an injury last night, Jurgen Klopp’s side have a massive advantage.
Bastoni injury could be key to Liverpool beating Inter in Milan

The Italian international has developed into one of Europe’s best defenders with Inter, and Bastoni’s injury has given Liverpool a huge boost in their chances of coming away from Milan with a big win.
With the away goals rule scrapped, a straight win will be perfect for Liverpool against Inter, who could struggle against the likes of Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota with Bastoni potentially out on the injury table.
