Stefan de Vrij has rebuffed interest from Premier League champions Liverpool and will sign a new £90,000-a-week deal with Inter Milan instead, as reported by FC Inter News.
While another Nerazzuri defender, Milan Skriniar, has been the subject of near relentless transfer speculation in recent months, today it’s De Vrij’s turn.
The classy centre-back was named Serie A’s best defender at the end-of-season awards last term and, with Liverpool in the midst of an injury crisis, Jurgen Klopp’s side have reportedly come calling for Virgil van Dijk’s international teammate.
De Vrij formed a formidable partnership with Van Dijk in the Holland defence and Liverpool obviously feel they would thrive together at club level too.
“He is a strong defender. I can learn from him. On and off the pitch he is a good person. It is always nice to play alongside him,” De Vrij said recently of his compatriot.

But, according to FC Inter News, the former Feyenoord and Lazio man has no intention of walking away from the San Siro having established himself as a crucial figure on and off the pitch in Antonio Conte’s Scudetto-chasing squad.
The report adds De Vrij will be rewarded for his colossal performances with a contract extension until 2025.
The 28-year-old will also be handed a pay rise with a new £90,000-a-week deal set to make him Inter’s third-highest paid player, behind Romelu Lukaku and Christian Eriksen.
