Liverpool are reportedly ready to join Celtic in the race for Eupen attacker Henry Onyekuru.

According to Belgian broadcasting outlet RTBF, Eupen winger Henry Onyekuru has gone AWOL in a bid to force a move away from the club, with Liverpool joining Celtic in the race for his signature.

Onyekuru, 19, joined Eupen from the Aspire Academy in 2015, and having helped fire the club to promotion last season, he has starred in the Jupiler Pro League this term.

The Nigerian attacker – who can play out wide or up front – has notched 12 goals and six assists in all competitions this season, and he appears to be attracting major interest.

Today, Belgian broadcasting outlet RTBF report that Onyekuru has actually pulled out of the Eupen side to take on Standard Liege tonight, and is attempting to force a move away from the Belgian side.

It’s stated that Celtic have lodged a €1.5million (£1.25million) bid for Onyekuru – an offer that has been rejected as Eupen want €4million (£3.4million) for their star player – and Celtic aren’t alone in the race for his signature.

The report claims that Liverpool are now interested in signing Onyekuru as well, with Jurgen Klopp clearly needing another player with pace in attack, given that his side have looked slow and ponderous without Sadio Mane.

The Reds should have more to spend than Celtic, but first-team opportunities in Glasgow should be greater than at Anfield, which could weigh on Onyekuru’s mind if he has to decide between the two clubs.

Liverpool seem willing to battle former manager Brendan Rodgers for Onyekuru’s signature, but the player himself allegedly dream of joining Arsenal, given that his hero is Gunners legend Thierry Henry – and we could see the forward make a move before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
