Liverpool’s links to Mason Mount just won’t go away.

The Reds have been tentatively linked with Mount for months now, and as his Chelsea contract saga rumbles on, the Merseyside club are on alert.

Indeed, according to The Guardian, Liverpool are now ready to act on their interest in the ‘phenomenal’ 24-year-old as they line up a summer move.

It’s no secret that the Reds are keen to revamp their midfield come the end of the season after a terrible campaign that has seen their current set-up exposed, and it sounds as though Mount is a part of these plans.

Liverpool, of course, also hold a strong interest in Jude Bellingham and Matheus Nunes, and if all goes to plan, these three could form a new-look midfield trifecta at Liverpool.

Mount would be absolutely fantastic for Liverpool. Yes, he can be frustrating at times for Chelsea, but his role at Stamford Bridge is entirely different to the role he would have at Anfield.

For Jurgen Klopp, he’d be playing in a system that suits his talents to a tee. He’d be asked to do a lot of running and play with a lot of intensity – two things that Mount does brilliantly.

The England star being used in a similar way to how Georginio Wijnaldum was during his pomp is a mouthwatering prospect, and alongside one or two more midfield additions, it could give this Liverpool team the new life it needs to kick on and get back to its best.

Of course, this all depends on Chelsea actually letting the player go. Mount has been a key player for the Blues for years at this point, and while his contract talks aren’t progressing right now, it’s hard to imagine that the west Londoners will let their academy graduate go without a fight.

Chelsea need to get their acts together if they want to keep Mount, because Liverpool are ready to pounce.
