Liverpool defender Rhys Williams is closing in on a loan move to Championship side Swansea City.
According to the Athletic, the two clubs are in talks to complete the deal before tonight’s 11 pm deadline. Williams was a regular for Liverpool last season as the Reds were hit by a defensive injury crisis.
With Jurgen Klopp signing Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig, the likes of Williams and Nat Phillips have dropped down to the bench. Virgil van Dijk is also back to full fitness.
As per the report, Swansea have presented themselves as a club that could help develop Williams’ following his breakout year with Liverpool last campaign.
With the England youth international not featuring for Liverpool this season, a loan makes sense for Williams. Klopp is a fan of the youngster, though. The Reds boss called the defender ‘outstanding’ via the Daily Mail.
Indeed, Swansea have also been a club that have proved to be a good destination for Premier League players looking to play regular first-team minutes.

Former Liverpool star Rhian Brewster excelled for the Welsh club. As have Chelsea star Connor Gallagher and Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
A deal could be completed soon. And Williams will benefit greatly from moving to Swansea rather than sitting on the bench for Liverpool.
