Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on the Juventus midfielder.
According to a report from the Sun, Liverpool have asked Juventus about the possibility of bringing Sami Khedira to Anfield this summer.
Emre Can is almost certainly set to leave Merseyside this summer, with the Sun claiming that the German is on the verge of signing a five-year deal with the Italian giants.
Jürgen Klopp will obviously have to find a replacement for the 24-year-old if he does eventually leave Liverpool, and the Sun claims that he has identified Khedira as a primary summer transfer target.
The 31-year-old German also recently shared his desire to one day play in the Premier League, when speaking to Sport Bild:
“I’m not thinking about my future right now, but one day I would like to win the Premier League. I only have one year left on my contract here and will be 32 next year.”
Good signing for Liverpool?
The Germany international is seven years older than Can, but it could be argued that he is on a different level to his countryman.
Khedira has won all there is to win in the game, including the World Cup and Champions League in the same year.
He has excelled throughout his career at playing the box-to-box role, but as he has got older, his game has evolved, and he is now more comfortable sitting just in front of the back four.
The 31-year-old would provide great cover for Liverpool’s back-line, and his winning mentality would certainly add something that the Reds squad currently lack.
He is valued at just £24.6 million, according to Transfer Markt, and that would represent excellent value in today’s day and age.
Whilst Klopp will not want to lose Can, bringing Khedira to Anfield would certainly soften the blow.
With Naby Keita set to arrive at Anfield this summer, the Reds already have an incredibly strong midfield, but adding the Germany international to the mix would make Klopp’s engine room arguably the best in the Premier League.
